Amputations result from a variety of causes including: poor blood circulation to your extremities, injury from trauma or an accident, or cancer. While some amputations affect individual’s upper-extremities (hands or arms), most are performed on lower-extremities (feet and legs). Artificial limbs or prostheses, are fit on amputees allowing them to resume normal daily activities. Approximately 2 million people in the U.S. live with amputations with about 150,000 amputations being performed in the U.S. annually.
